Thank you for your interest in becoming a homestay family for East Coast Language College.

The first step would be to complete our online application.

This gives us more information about your family and home.  We will contact you within two weeks of receiving your application to let you know we have received it, and if you have met our requirements.  If we are in need of homestay families, we will set up an appointment to meet you and visit your home.  We discuss the students' needs and the homestay contract.  It is also a good time to go over any questions that you might have.  We then visit any common areas in your home that our students might use.

The main factors that we consider for each family include:

  1. The Quality of the Home – the home environment should be clean and comfortable and within 45 minutes to our school.

  2. Healthy Food – Families are to provide 3 nutritious meals each day and snacks.

  3. Family & student interaction – Families are required to provide a caring and supportive environment. The student should be considered a member of the family and time should be spent having conversation with the student, including them in family activities, introducing them to friends and extended family members. You are also expected to familiarize them with the city, your neighborhood, accompanying the student to school on their first day, teaching the student about Canadian life and culture and assisting with homework, if necessary.

  4. Understanding of Student Needs – Families are required to have tolerance and understanding of the students’ needs and be accepting of cultural differences.

  5. Location of Home – Your home must be located within a 45-minute bus ride to the school. Our final consideration is always the quality of the family and their home.

  6. A valid Criminal Record Check will be required for each person over the age of 18 in the household.

It is very important to the school that our students are made to feel welcome and safe in a Homestay family and that the student is happy and comfortable in their home environment.

All homestay family members over the age of 19 must provide a Criminal Record Check before we will assign an ECLC student to their home.
